Type Locality and Naming

SW Algeria. It is well exposed at Ain Inhanas, and at the Foum Belrem Ridge, Kahla in the northeast to Hassi Kermas (Wendt et al., 2006).

Lithology and Thickness

It contains well-rounded, locally imbricated, pebbles of Lower Devonian sandstones, ironstones, phosphorites and corroded quartz grains in a calcareous matrix with brachiopod coquinas, and caps an eroded surface with an up to 1 m relief. The major part of the Eifelian consists of silty greenish shales with some thin interlayers of fine-grained sandstones and calcareous mudstones (Wendt et al., 2006). The thickness of the Eifelian strata (Argiles de l'Adrar Morrat Fm) varies considerably between 0–5 m on the Foum Belrem Ridge and 140 m in the eastern Reggane Basin (Wendt et al., 2006).

Lower contact

It unconformably overlies the Dkhissa Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Calcaire de Azzel Matti Fm (Reggane Basin) or the Calcaire de Takoula Fm (Ahnet Basin)
